We live about 7 miles west of Harrogate in N. Yorkshire, just at the bottom of the Dales. |
Today the A59 which is above us 1.5 miles away was almost impassable. One of our friends of 50 years now lives a spot on the A59 called dangerous corner.
He said this morning it was getting very bad indeed.
They have to be aware that they may get visitors in these conditions due to road conditions blocking the A59.
Some years ago either a car or lorry ended up in their garden having just missed the house.
That area is usually very well looked after due to the Military base. But being high up it gets a pasting.
The snow today is very heavy or dense as it fell small hail size.
If you walk under a tree and it sheds its snow you could be hit hard.
If you look at my photos 3 & 6 the top of that tree is almost flat on the ground tonight. A few others are under a heavy load.
At looks as if I am going to be down at the logging area tomorrow to cut more timber. Next two weeks will see that tree on 6 cut down and logging started.
Heavy work but it helps to try to get me fit.
Late this afternoon a farmer went past with his snow blade on his tractor. Not seen piles of snow at the side of the road like it for a lot of years, Hugh chunks.
Overnight itís going to freeze hard so people in our area will have difficulty getting out.
Our son in law went to Harrogate to collect our ASDA delivery and said it was almost gridlocked.
But Daisy came through again ( the LR Defender).
My son had to go home as his Sprinter van just no good in Snow. He didnít even get to his first pickup point 5 miles from home. His usual day is 250 - 300 miles around NYorkshire.
Thank goodness we donít live out towards Leeds / Bradford they have had a lot more than us.
