Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell was a Country & Western singer and a superstar. He died in 2017. Did you know he could accompany himself on the Bagpipes? Click the Link below.
Hebburn had a Campbell who piped the New Year in early 1900s standing outside Roys on Glen St corner. We had quite a few other Campbell families in the Town, inc our board regular Allan Campbell.

I can remember my grandfather taking me for a walk across the golf links and there was someone playing the bagpipes, that would be about 1945. My aunt who is now 97 was telling me that before the war, there would be Scottish Country Dancing in the Lord Nelson Garden.

Glen was much more than a country and western star he was a member of The Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians who played on hundreds of tracks from Nat King Cole to being the house band for the Phil Spector wall of sound productions, the Beach Boys,Mama's and Papas and so many more. The only group of musicians that came anywhere near were the Motown studio band The Funk Brothers. Both bands were never credited on the tracks they played on and most of the musicians are no longer with us, but what a legacy they left.

Thank you N44, Norman is much better . I have spent a pleasant hour listening to Glen Campbell on my iMac . Sound quality not to good, my hearing also not to good, but ,with help of a good set of ' BOSE' earphones , what more could I ask. Campbell Street is where I was born so that made a connection, Thumbs up.

I consider Glen Campbell to be one of the greatest singers. He had such a distinctive and powerful voice and many very enjoyable hits. As well original songs he did covers, such songs as ‘Its Only Make Believe’, ‘Its Over’ and ‘MacArthur Park’. Fabulous.

His Daughter Ashley is quite a musician as well, she can pick a mean banjo
