Another frosty morning

Yesterday we were due to leave home at 8.15 am.
Opened the front door and just sheets of clear ice. I had difficulty in getting to the garden gate.

I had to put down rock salt before Ann could step out the door.

Then big problem my de icier would not touch the ice on windscreen and it’s was too solid to try and chip away.

As the clock was ticking I resorted to filling a big lemonade bottle with cold water from the tap.

I slowly poured it onto the windscreen and it worked gradually melting the ice. A second bottle was required to finish off.

I think this only worked as the air temp. had crept up so that the water did not freeze.

Do not ever use hot or warm water. It could crack your screen and also when warm or hot water cools it can go colder than the original surface temp. Some sort of temp bounce.

Allan Have you ever thought of putting News paper or other coverings over the glass wind screens/windows?

Hello Allan (Campbell),

As you know, it can be much colder in the hollow where you live, than the surrounding higher ground, as cold air being heavier, settles in the lower areas.

You know better than most, this colder air can cause many problems, though you have the ingenuity to overcome them.

Allan,
We have heavy frost here in Hebburn today and it still hasn't thawed.
Since the mid 80s we've always had a garage & drive so I just run a cable to a portable fan heater in the car. Once thawed they go back in the garage and we drive off in a nice warm car with clear windows.

Here in Herefordshire we had a very heavy overnight frost, it hasn’t thawed despite the fact the sun is shining, snow is forecast for tonight and tomorrow but I don’t think it will be as bad as what people are getting further north. I do pity those poor people who have been flooded yet again.
