Ann & I had the Pfizer Vaccine on Friday
Posted by Allan Campbell on January 25, 2021, 5:03 pm
Got them at the Yorkshire Events Centre.
Went very smooth indeed. No side effects at all.
Told to leave car 5 mins before we were due, and we were back in car in about 35 mins.
By having us both at the same time must have saved them about 10 mins.
Long line of cars waiting to get into the center. Excellent traffic management. Never seen so many old folk at the same time.
My letter arrived on Monday 18th and I tried the website given to book. I could have gone to far side of Leeds or York Manchester, St. Helens and other places a long drive away. None local.
Knowing the there was a site at Harrogate I phoned our Doctors and given an appointment on Friday.
Ann's letter arrived the following day. She tried website, no go, so rang our Doctors to be told that I should not have been given an appointment as they had not yet done all 80 year old's. They would ring back in a few hours to let us know if or when.
They came back 2 hours later and said that they would allow us in on Friday, together.
I can only assume that there was an error due to 50% of their staff being seconded to the Vaccination Centre.
It was not easy to find how to get to the Vaccination Centre as there are 2 possible routes. A call to the Doc's clarified it.
When the letters arrive, you do as instructed phone 119 or go to website. It appears that your doctors notify you where & when. Still puzzled.
Never mind got ours and awaiting for date of 2nd jab.
Myself and my husband had appointments 8 50am and 9.05am.our surgery and another surgery were using a building that was used as a day centre for the elderly, but closed last year. The manager of our surgery was organising people to go into the building. We were told to just go in together. We had the vaccine at 8.50am, then had to sit in a room with a two metre space between each seats for 15 minutes then told we could go. In one door out the opposite door all in less than 20 minutes.. Most surgeries are getting together to share space, my friend had to go to the nearby village hall as one village doctor teamed up with another surgery in town. All well organised.
Sheila It sounds that your appointments went smoothly for your jabs, unlike ours being on the 13th late afternoon turned into a nightmare, the NHS staff were excellent with helping us,our doctor's surgery did not get involved we got lost going same getting back the car broke down on lowfell high street breakdown service gave us a 90min wait other traffic hooting at us,we both felt unwell rang for our daughter and grandson who came to our assistance costly repair then to top it all we have paid a buslane .fine.hope we have a better outcome for the 2nd jab.Sheila, good to see you back on the board
Oh Lilian what a nightmare for you and Eric. It was never supposed to be like that, what a time for your car to let you down, but thanks to your son and daughter you were rescued. My friend had to go to a nearby village for her vaccine. Although she thought she knew where the village hall was, she thought she would do a dry run with her grandson just to make sure. He decided he would take her as she is on her own. It is just stress that we don’t need. I hope you are all recovered as we will all have to do it again soon. Stay safe Lilian. Always look forwards to your memories.
