Moderna Vaccine Experience

I recently completed my COVID-19 vaccination with the Moderna vaccine and thought I'd post my experience here with regard to side effects etc. for people's reference.

Some people who were vaccinated had the same experiences as me, others lesser effects or nothing at all. It just seems to depend on the individual person.

First shot, I had no ill effects at all other than some pain around the injection site the following day.

Second shot (4 weeks later) the day of the shot I was fine again, but woke up feeling a bit rough the next day, and again sore at the injection site. As day 2 wore on, I began to exhibit flu-like symptoms - muscle aches, headache, chills and a 102F / 38.9C temperature.

By day 3, my temperature was on its way down and the chills and aches were subsiding, and by around 4:00 in the afternoon on day 3 I felt pretty much OK. When I woke up day 4 I felt completely normal.

So of you have the Moderna vaccine and experience these effects, don't worry - it's a fairly common response.

I had the Oxford Vaccine on Saturday morning and I've had no side effects whatsover, not even a mark where they jabbed me.
Second one will be in April.

I have just had the Oxford at 5pm which is great......I am a fan of their dictionaries so this should be just right!!

Interesting, my friend in Somerset and her sister had the Oxford vaccine on Sunday. The both had 24 hour flu symptoms. Headache, muscle pain, sore arm and shivers. Both now feel better. I have emailed her to tell her,Mac and Norman, that you both had the same vaccine with no after affects. My husband and I had the Pfizer vaccine, he had no problems, but I had a stiff arm for a couple of days, so everyone reacts differently.

I am a bit early to say "no symptoms"..... I will ask for sympathy if appropriate Sheila!!

Oh, I shall keep my fingers crossed Mac, hoping sympathy is not needed. I’m thinking of your wife, having had to deal with a husband who had man flu!

From what I have been told, the second dose is more likely to provoke a reaction than the first, as the first dose primes the body to recognise the virus "fingerprint" for want of a better word. When you are given the second dose, the body recognises it and produces antibodies, hence the reaction.

I'm probably getting a lot wrong in that explanation, but hopefully have the gist of it.

We're waiting for our 2nd appointment jab for the Moderna, fingers crossed all is well. No symptoms from the first one.

Following on from my previous post, we had our 2nd jabs yesterday. My husband doesn't even have a sore arm, mine is more tender and painful than the first and I don't feel on top of the world which is unusual for me, guess it's just a normal reaction.

That’s good news, Sylvia! From what I have read, about a third of patients have the kind of reaction that I did to some degree, but most go without any issues. Glad to hear that you were in the second category!
