Monday's header of old Station Rd

I love this old view of Station Rd ,long before all those properties on the left were demolished. The 3 corner properties in the photo are still there today though.

Somehow I missed the demolition of those properties. One minute they were there and then suddenly they had been replaced by the library and shopping centre. I was born at 80 Station Road just a few doors down from the Bentick, and my grandparents had Tungate's shop at 78. Station Road and Tennant Street were a thriving shopping centre back in the day.

Another amazing glimpse into the past! I would love to know what products those billboards are advertising.

Look at those arches on the left. Is that where the hairdressers is now?

Just looked on Google maps, the arches are still there, then the hairdressers

Just this side of the arches was the Trustee Savings Bank. My friend, Cliff Carter, lived above the bank.

Thank you Norman, a lovely memory of Hebburn New Town. I used to bank at the Trustee Bank. Having one pound taken from my wages each week and sad to say on the fifth week drawing it out to spending it on something new to wear for the usual Saturday dance. Happy memories.
