How many still have the traditional Sunday Roast dinner?

We do, mainly during the cold months but not every Sunday, summer is different as tend not to have the very ‘heavy’ stuff.

Today it is venison but next Sunday it will be a roast chicken, last Sunday was roast pork, just love the crackling on roast pork, to be honest I think that is the best bit!!!

We generally have a roast but occasionally intersperse with casseroles and pies, all homemade of course. Today we are doing a pot roast of beef, chicken cassoulet next sunday,
Whether you have a roast or not, have what you enjoy.

We usually have roast something on Sundays, although in the evening, not at lunchtime.

Always Carol and at Table with best silverware. Bottle of wine.
Mainly traditional roasts with plenty of veg but like Liz we ring the changes. A French inspired casserole is one favourite. We used to always have a starter but our appetites are not up to that now but sometimes I am tempted to a pud....a home made crumble is hard to resist.
I am most fortunate to have a cook of some skill so most nights Jean prepares something. It is very rare for us to have anything that we dont prepare ourselves.
And we often comment about how little it costs us!

Yes we occasionally have a pudding too,in fact we are having golden syrup sponge and custard for afters today. Proper comfort food.

Yes home made is best and costs less than ready made stuff, always find that a roast chicken usually does the 2 of us 2 meals then the left overs, carcass etc I make into chicken soap, no wastage and 3 meals.

Never understand people who complain about the price of food then proceed to buy pizzas and other ready made stuff that is so expensive.

Like you Sylvia we have our main Sunday meal in the evening, don’t know why but just something that we have always done.

We used to go out for Sunday lunch every week before COVID, now we tend to have frozen meals, usually different each week. Looking forward to being able to go out again.

WE always sit down as a family for Sunday lunch, we had Turkey today but everyones favourite is roast pork.

We usually play golf on Sundays and living in a warmer climate, don't want to waste it sitting indoors eating if we can be outside. That said, in the summer it's too hot to play in the middle of the day but we still eat in the evening.

Great pic which bring back many memories.
I am not a golfer but am often invited to visit by people like you who live on one and the facilities are usually excellent.
One of my favourites is still Saddlebrook close to Wesley Chapel in FLA but there are a lot of condos there.
But for a course/club with a concentration on upper level homes, no condos, I find Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, CA a real winner.

Mac I know Saddlebrook. My husband was playing a good number of years ago in a charity type of tournament sponsored by British Airways if I remember correctly and he won a fabulous prize for sinking a 50' putt .. it was 5 days stay at Saddlebrook to include golf tuition for 2. It was great, and worth a chunk of money.
We stayed in a t/share in Palm Desert a couple of years ago, golf was expensive there - we weren't there to play, but the courses are lovely.

Yes we have stayed three times over the years. Second time for 3 weeks when the kids were youn. Last was 20 years ago for a Dinner before the Golf Hall of Fame induction of a friend.
Invitations to the General Manager's cocktail parties were always something to look forward to.
I recall meeting the Canadian Ladies Golf Team....they were a hoot.
Yes the Desert can be expensive. Leaving the price out I have always said that I couldnt live there mainly because apart from Golf, which I dont do, there is only shopping and eating as diversions. Very little in the way of history. And Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms are not exactly riveting!
But the climate is special and I will be going back to stay with our friends on Mission Hills when allowed.

Do you remember suet puddings when it was boiled in a muslin cloth...meat or sweet....they were staples of my youth!

I made a steak suet pudding a couple of weeks ago with Atora suet, but didn't get it quite right though. Hadn't made one in years.

I do a syrup/jam sponge in 3 mins in the microwave, here goes, put treacle in the basin and mix 2oz sugar,2oz marg,1 egg and 2oz s.r.flour .put mixture on the treacle an hey presto a delicious pudd. in no time.

If you cook your filling you can do a suet pudding by the same method
