The roadmap, today's budget. State of Newcastle.
I believe in trying to look at things as half glass full, therefore I will be looking to go away abroad later in year maybe October.
Or maybe just being able to drive down the beach is what I should aspire to.
Where to people dream of going again and when,let's be speculative.

We hope to get away in our caravan to the South of France in September but have not booked the crossing.

That will not be done until August as Covid and France not doing the vaccine very well.

The site and pitch is booked as we book well in advance 2 years.

If we get we get but not laying out any money until last minute.
To many people not sticking to the Covid rules could well mean back to lockdown in. Month or so. Just hope I’m being overly pessimistic.

Our max loss would be £400 if book the crossing and it goes awry.

I would not book anything before late Aug. Or early Sept. for an Oct. holiday. There is always another year.

Much the same here Allan.
WE are due in Portugal for a month lateish September.....pencilled in by owner.....no deposit paid.
Since we are planning to go by car we will only go if France/Spain/Portugal make good progress with their vaccine and levels have gone down.
And by using the tunnel too we will be in our own bubble and similarly when we make hotel stops during the 1500 mile journey........but who knows.
If that doesnt work out we will just have to do with our stay in Christon Bank earlier that month.

Like Mac and Alan we also have a holiday booked for the Luberon in September, it has been carried forward from last September, if we decide to go we will use the tunnel, be in our own bubble, use very limited hotel stops that kind of thing.

We haven’t made any channel crossing bookings, we are monitoring the situation in France very closely as we feel that their infection levels are very high whilst vaccine levels are very low, if we can’t get to the Luberon this year it will be a very forceful attempt to get our money back from the Villa Company. In the meantime we really look forward to a trip to Northumberland in May, moved from March, the Yorkshire Dales in July and back to Northumberland again in November, if we don’t get to France in September we will see what is available in the UK.

Maybe next year will be better!!!

Hi Liz
I am banking on the Tunnel's 24 hour capacity which will hopefully mean that I can get a outward slot when is seems sensible to do so.
And to be totally flexible I wont book my return until I am about 2/3 hours from the terminal on the way home.....the joys of technology......and if there are no slots I will just check in somewhere around the area.
Actually that last possibilty is quite attractive.

Yes it is. We have often stayed at De Panne just over the boarder in Belgium.

Plenty places to visit, old fortified towns etc. You can get a train and go to Brugge, Gent Etc. Have do that, a doddle.

There are the WW1 battlefields plus WW11 Blockhaus and Coupole. Agincourt and Cressy not far away.

Quite a few of these still on my to do list when not heading to the South of France.

My in-laws in Turkey say the place is fully booked for late spring and summer months.

Davy it will be the EU causing people from going to France Etc.. their lack of giving the vaccine has a good chance of delaying our trips until next year.

The best thing that has come out of all the lockdowns is that people have not spent a lot of money so bank balances are far better. I am astounded by the amount that we have not spent.

Just the mileage on the car gone down by 6,000 miles in a year that’s not spending £1,250 plus the wear and tear on the car and also the Caravan. £800 on ferries.

We in UK could well go back into lockdown due to new versions of Covid but the main problem is the anti vaccine people and others not social distancing etc. They are the ones shooting themselves in the foot (and us).

To think that the government are enjoying locking us down is just bonkers.

I think there will be riots this summer if we are kept in lockdown. Not everybody agrees with this goverments policies.

The economy would have been a lot better if we had just used more pro active approach of leaving it open and letting vulnerable shield. Would the number of deaths been much more, if any?

But practically all responsible Governments worldwide are taking the same action. I presume that they are all doing what the scientific community advises!!
Not being an expert in Virology, immunology, epidemiology or having been invited to join SAGE I can only trust their judgement.
And the UK plan is for ALL restriction to be relaxed by 21 June.....all being well.

Yes mac they are doing the same as every other government, but every other person in the world is getting tired of losing their liberties and livelihoods. They are extending furlough till september that means they are keeping it till then, Hope I am wrong.

Yes you are right Davy we are all getting tired of it but for me there is little option.
I also think that the furlough has been extended to cover the period after Jun 21 on a "just in case" basis to help companies, during re-opening, regain their market and step up production.
But I do not see it as a signal that the proposed end date has been extended.
Hope I'm right!

The published plans are for pubs and hospitality NOT to open outdoors until 12th April and Indoors 17th May at the earliest.
So the pubs wont be open for Easter David. Sorry. I need a pint to but I will wait.
I prepared a precis of the plans which I will post in a new thread.
