Immediately opposite the white car on the corner of Ellison Street and Church Street was 130 Ellison Street where I was born on 1st April 1940 in my maternal grandmotherís home, If my memory is right it was a flat above a corner shop. We then moved to the opposite end of the block to the corner of Ellison Street / St. Andres Street which overlooked the top gate of Hawthorne Leslies and where I used as a boy to watch the men running out of the gate at finishing times. We then moved over the road to 69 Ellison Street which was a huge house. Then my parents purchased 1 Blue House Road and our back garden looked onto that of Allan Campbells home. |
Allans dad became an Inspector in the Special Constabulary and years later I took over his position as Special Inspector in charge of Hebburn, Jarrow and Boldon Sub Divisions.
