Here's a one for older bowlers and regulars.

Recently, there have been posts about Saltwell park, marine park, South Shields, West park, South Shields.
My query is again, how many greens were in each during early ,mid seventies, it is not limited to these but other such as Hebburn, Jarrow parks are easier to remember. This maybe one for Ronnie,bored Richardson or Jarra, older bowlers.

2 in Jarrow Park David. Jarrow West End and Jarrow played there. Jarrow West End disbanded but were quickly reinvented under the name of Jarrow Borough in approximately 1993.
The other one was Monkton Dene just off Valley View. They had 2 greens but the club disbanded in the 90s due to no one wanting to be on committee.
Those 2 greens are now wrack and ruin. Its so bad the kids wont even play football on them now. Such a shame. I have a team photo of the Monkton Dene members. I'll hunt it out. Know all the names also.

My query was largely Saltwell park in seventies, I remember five or six but felt there were more than that.
Marine park six, West park shields three, Hebburn had three, others as well.

After reading this post I remembered I had a very small photo of my Dad, Harry Jackson bowling. The other man looks a bit like my uncle Harry Dunn.Now looking at it on the computer screen it looks like Jarrow to me. Does anyone know. I'm thinking it's mid to late 50's.

I might guess Hebburn with the building in th e background b ding Wellengton st,more than likely will be wrong as it is 60 years since l was at the bowling green. Never mind.

Thank you Tom and David. I've had a look now on Google Maps and I think I can match the photos up. It's actually Canning St

Yes definateley Hebburn park. As you walk through that gate on the right Palmers played there.

ive just had another memory.Been told there was a bowling green behind the Greyhound pub in Jarrow. Not sure if true
