Saturday' s Header

Todays header is a view of Ellison Hall we dont often see as its taken at the west end of the Hall. St John's Church you can see was origially part of the house. The Ellison family donated that wing to be converted into a Church in 1886 by local builder John Munro.

Notice how the windows on the two elevations on the second floor are at different heights, always wondered why ?

Someone explained this a few months ago.
Do I recall that there is a Ballroon or similar on one elevation which explains the configuration.
Another theory is that the windows were the result of alterations done way back when.
I think thay it was Barry C who came up with the answer. Where is the Board Detective when we need him. Come back Barry!!

Someone told me that the windows were in what was originally a Hospital Ward and the reason for the difference in height was to give better light, don’t know how true that is, remains a mystery.

The bricked up window on the small prayer room to the side of the church was reinstated a couple of years ago. A few of us were in the church one Saturday morning and heard an almighty crashing sound, when we went outside to investigate we found the exterior wall had collapsed. As part of the rebuild it was decided to reinstate the window. Not sure why it was ever bricked up.
