Once again, thanks for a wonderful photograph of Sheldon St that holds many memories for my mothers family. In the 50's I often listened to Mam and Granny Brunt talk of Aunt Sana and I wasn't until about 3 years ago when I started researching my family tree to discover her name was in fact Mersaney she was Granny's older sister. |
I found a web site North East War Memorials Project www.new place.org.uk and there is listed the people who perished on a raid over the NE on 9th - 10th April 1941.
Great Aunt Mersaney and Great Uncle William McClure lived at 16 Sheldon St and I discovered that there were 24 who died when the land mine exploded and they had lived at 8 : 12 : 14 : 16 : 18 : 22 : 24, Sheldon St.
I knew of this family history but never asked where the street was and now these photos are bringing my mental picture to life. I have vague memories of Jarrow, before the shopping centre and now the picture is coming clearer.
