However with the fine weather there are a lot more cyclists about. The Dales are very popular for cyclists and a lot more have taken it up thanks to COVID-19. Lot of people will have come out from Leeds, Bradford etc. |
A lot of cycling clubs that have been letís say closed down or limited activities during Covid-19 have started opening up again in the last month and itís maybe just cyclists wanting to get out again after the layoff and ride in groups instead of solo.
There is great difficulty in buying a bike these days. Shortage of new bikes as well as parts.
My pals son has in the last few weeks bought a new road bike and the one he bought was his 6 th option. He paid around £5,500. The bike that he originally wanted unobtainable unless he bought a higher level version at about £8,500 or the top line one at £11,500. These very high prices are due to top quality equipment being fitted to extremely high quality frames made of Carbon. High end gear changing in now done electronically and that kind of gear can cost £2,500 just to move through the gears. The mind boggles at some prices !
Just read an article on expensive bikes as some people say £8,500 for a bicycle I could buy a motor bike for that.
It said that there is no comparison as the bicycle at that price is nearer to the state of the art for bicycles. The quality being far far higher than a motor bike at an even higher price.
I know very little about motorbikes but understand what the article said. The amount of work and design that goes into modern quality bicycles is very high and just saving a few grams saving is the target as that saves a few watts in the riders efforts hence more endurance.
I love reading these articles and admire the search to save any weight or make a bike more aerodynamic.
I only wish that I was 30 years younger to try these bikes.
Years ago we used to go diving at Kirby Lonsdale and there often 100 motorcyclists in the car parks with the vast majority being older generation as they had the money.
Now these have both push bikes and motorbikes.
I suppose that there is more disposable income about now as well as a bit of a fitness culture.
