Both my grandfather's worked at Wardley and Follonsby pits, long before your time I think.
My paternal grandfather was secretary for the Union for many years, he is on the photo of the infamous "Red Banner" taken at the Welfare Ground 1935.
If Norman could bring the photograph up, he is on the left of the front row of officials, turned sideways, next to the lady holding the baby.
I worked at the at Follonsby Washer from 1964 until it closed 1968ish, then a couple of months at Monkton Washer, then Whitburn Area Workshops until 1973.
