The new housing

Thatís the stupidity of planning and developers etc. |
The result will eventually be that the sheds will be demolished and the business gone. Just a question of time.
Itís happened to two firms that I worked for.
The main one was the one I left Hebburn to work in Harrogate in 1968. It was forced to move and close the works as housing was built around it and they complained about the noise. The site became uneconomic as they could not work extended shifts, evening or nightshifts to complete projects particularly after the 1988 crash.
The original works was getting out of date and the new much better. However the costs involved pushed the overheads way up to far.
That company closed in 1992 and I was lucky to find other work. The parent company probably recouped a major portion of the losses. The 3 year old overhead cranes sold to India together with other stuff.
The building itself became a print factory for the Yellow Pages but I think that didnít last long. Not sure whatís done there now.
