Thursday at the long gone 'Banks of the Tyne' Pub

Todays Header photo is a nice view of the 'Banks of the Tyne' PH on the 'low road' not long before it burned down,never to be rebuilt.

That's a blast from the past!

When I left school, for a short while, before I served my time in engineering, I worked in the offices of Rowell's Brewery in Gateshead.

One of my duties was to take orders off the phone for the weekly pub deliveries.

"The Ellison Arms" was one of Rowell's pubs, and although I knew Hebburn quite well , (lots of relatives), I hadn't a clue where this pub was.

"The Mill Tavern" on Mill Lane and "The Prince of Wales" on York Avenue were also Rowell's pubs.

I used to go there in the mid-to-late 1980s and always liked it. I only ever had lunch there once but remember it was nice.

I don't remember that conservatory-looking part on the right. Was that a later addition?

I haven't lived in the area for many years so only relatively recently learned that it had burned down. Sad to hear that.
