Old Newton club site?

Does any one know what is going to be done about this land.
Additionally, is the pedestrian tunnel completed now and final costs.

Pedestrian tunnel still at a standstill,you can still get through using lifts, or if your fit enough walk the stairs.

The site of the old Newtown Club is an eyesore and disgrace. I have no idea who owns the land or what their intentions are but South Tyneside Council should chase them up to get the site (or should it be sight) sorted ! It’s the same with West Parade, the pavement has been blocked by barriers for over 8 months forcing pedestrians and wheelchair user to either walk on the road or cross the road twice, it is a significant hazard and risk, again South Tyneside Council need to get their fingers out !

Enforcement order for redevelopment or a compulsory purchase order needed now I think.

Quite agree Mac. Most of the funding seems to go to South Shields.

Here is a photo James Goring took before they demolised the club in 2015.It looks a decent building that could have been converted into something rather than demolish and leave such a mess for the next 7 years and counting. Shields wouldnt put up with this.

Ski bought it was going to build houses on it but don't know if he still owns it.

Planning permission was refused for a block of flats to be built a few years ago. It's changed hands a few times since Ski owned it. The council had problems chasing the owners not so long ago when the site needed to be made more secure.
