Can you imagine Haworth and the County of Yorkshire dropping the name 'Bronte Country' ?
I'm sure they wouldnt because it brings in thousands of visitors each year.
Then why has our local authority dropped the name 'Cookson Country'?
Catherine Cookson wrote nearly 100 books & sold well over 120 million copies. Her dramas can be watched on catch up TV and what did our clever Council do? They dropped the name. Surely that was a blunder.

Probably Catherine Cookson is not 'woke ' enough fir the Council!!!

They had been trying to drop the name for years nothing to do with woke. Also when they used the name they didn't really cash in, apart from a little bit of a mention at Jarrow Hall there was nothing that was pushed to any degree.

Even if the Council didn't 'market' the name, there would have been a hidden benefit.

Unfortunately, unless there is an obvious and tangible financial benefit, the bean counters will see the use of the name as a failure. It is difficult to prove the benefit of a 'name' unless it is attached to a particular and probably singular product/service.
