Todays header is of Harrison's little long gone ship yard at Bill Quay.

Great photo Norman. I wonder how many people worked there. The Albion pub can just be seen.

I'm sure my dad worked there at some stage when we lived in Bill Quay - Bill Alderson.

I am pretty sure that the pub in the background is actually the Cricketers-note the two bow windows.

You are right Mac i5 i# the Cricketers, the Albion was a creamy white coloured building if I remember correctly and it wasn’t on a hill, it was just to the left before you entered Harrison’s, the off license was at the right hand side if the looking at the building from the front.

Yep. The Albion was on Reay St.
On my rare visits to the NE I still find the Cricketers a fairly congenial place for a pint but what I really miss is times (early sixties) before all the rooms were knocked through and we played dominoes in the foggy old snug.

In the 60s, the Cricketers was ran by an old lady called Ethel and the picture is the Cricketers.

The Cricketers sold pie and peas on certain days, you had to take your own container for the peas.

Was the landlady of The Albion called Olga?

Stan you are correct it was Ethel at the Cricketers but I think the landlady at the Albion was called Olga.

You could be right Carol, maybe Olga was the landlady at the Wardley, such along time ago the mind pays tricks!!!

Stans sister was called Olga (Healey). At one time (1940's) she and her husband Bill had the Bull in Bottesford having had the Plough in Barkstone, Lincs before that.
I doubt that it was her who was at the Albion.....it would have had to be pre war but you never know!!
But there is a NE connection.....Olga retired to Sunderland to be near her daughter and. where she died in the mid 70's.

And the house behind the left crane is called South Bank apparantly.
I never knew it was there until I looked carefully at this post and compared it to current google maps.
Still obvoius are the concrete pillars supporting the middle crane.
There is always something to learn o this site about the places you thought you knew!!

Closed 1990. Yard originally William Boutland became RB Harrison which was a private company but by 1980's was part of the MEP Group.....which I know nothing about.
