Plane crash at Duxford show

Dragon Rapide had a landing problem and ended with its tail up in the air.

The nose wheel did not fail, it hasn’t got one.

Could a wind gust have tipped it, I suspect if it was taxiing back to its storage point and a wind gust from behind lifted the tail. The people onboard could have moved and made it nose heavy though.

Of course the brakes could have seized.

Be. Interesting to read the crash report. No doubt pilot error.

When nissan took over Sunderland aerodrome, there was a
Douglas Dragon Rapide left damaged and once used by Sunderland parachute club. It was damaged but repaired by the lads in the aircraft museum. The owners of the airfield were George and Lee Bamburgh. The crash report would be interesting Allan.

The Rapide is De Havilland not Douglas
