Norman, I have three copies of Dear Old Hebburn by Alf Pawsey. I am happy to let two of them go to anyone who may be interested in having a copy. I wouldn't part with the third as that is the one that Alf signed to my husband and I which he kindly sent us. He was aware that there were some errors regarding the Lakes in Hebburn but once published he couldn't rectify. He was a friend of my Mam, Rhoda Helsby and they played tennis together all those years ago. He was the most lovely man and became a dear friend of mine in his later life after they had moved up to Northumberland. He never forgot his roots in Hebburn and always talked kindly of the lovely folk who lived there. He invited us to his 90th birthday celebration which I will always remember. I will also always remember amazement and tears when he drove all the way down to Hebburn in 2004 to attend Mam's funeral when he was 89 years old. He was a great musician and played the organ for many years at St Johns He also gave music lessons well into his old age. He died in 2009 aged 94 years. A lovely and very dear man who I was privileged to know and call a friend.|
