there's not much she can do other than to change the password on her email account and warn everyone in her address book about this scam. They have probably all (like you) already received this email. She should also for safety run a full anti virus scan of her computer. Free AV programs are available from a number of providers.
It's also possible that it isn't her that's been hacked, but her email provider, particularly as it's someone like hotmail. A good resource to use to check if your email address has been included in any data breaches is:
This will show any breaches which include your email and you can take the appropriate action. Additionally, it's wise to use a password manager to generate and remember for you long complex and unique passwords for all sites that require an account. I use 1password, but there are others available, some free, some chargeable. Also, where available, always enable two factor authentication on web sites.
