Monday's Header in Hebburn park

Todays header was taken in the early 1900s and as I have said on the photo, the Ellison families wooden boathouse can be seen standing at the edge of what we called 'The second lake'. Originally the Park was The Ellison family's garden and they created 4 large ponds for their own use and where they entertained their wealthy friends. They used the lakes for fishing & boating. As we know in the late 1800s the Park & lakes were handed over to our Hebburn Urban District Council for the use of the people. I was born 1944 and a football pitch had taken its place by the late 40s and a new Bandstand had been created in the Dene. The Dene was originally a small quarry where sandstone was taken for the building of Hebburn/Ellison Hall hundreds of years ago.
