How not to look after a child.

I was on the school run this afternoon sitting in the car in Lakes school carpark. It was 0c outside so perishing.
A woman came along the school path on her phone pushing a child of about 18mths to 2yrs in a push chair and the child was facing forwards without a hat on.The poor bairn looked perished.
If there had been school Staff around could they have said something? because surely that was neglect?

Have to agree Norman, some of the parents (Single or other wise)are just too young to understand the children's needs.

Totally agree with you , wouldn't think you would need instructions on reverson the child's position in a pram.

We were walking along the Prom in Prestatyn and suddenly overcome by a freezing cold hailstorm. The wind was blowing and it hurt. We quickly found shelter. A young girl with 2 children, one in a buggy was sheltering in a very small part covered area. The toddler was standing facing the hailstorm! As we were running past I just had to turn him around! It didn't last long, but not pleasant.

It seems that some mothers care more for their mobile phones than their children, talking on the phone pushing children in buggies talking or texting whilst crossing roads without checking for traffic, children without hats, children ignored on buses, see it all too often.

Same happens in the summer when babies have the sun blazing in their little faces ,Not being protected.by a sunshade.

Driving in Hartlepool over panda crossings is a nightmare at times. Young mothers waiting to cross the road on a mobile phone with the front wheels of the pushchair actually on the crossing. Having swerved to avoid hitting the pushchair I blasted my own only to be given a two finger salute and a mouthful of foul language and this is not the first time it has happened. Other times I have seen mother's walking over the crossing and against the traffic lights all because they are too busy on a mobile phone. Not everyone is like that it is scary when it happens to you.

Sooner or later a child is going to get killed or seriously injured and of course the iPhone zombie is going to blame the driver !

Reading these posts, today in Abingdon it was freezing. I saw a young mum coming towards me andI i thought how sweet a new baby. I could see two tiny bare feet, not covered and Mum unaware kept going with one hand on the pram the other with her mobile to her ear. I loved my big couch pram in the 1960’s all warm and cosy. Hood and apron up against the cold.

Often the first thing pushed off the sidewalk into traffic is the pram and baby.
