Places to visit abroad if I could

I would love to visit Italy and particularly Sicily but will never be able to go.

Should have gone years ago but couldn’t afford it and Ann does not like flying.

Would not be happy driving to Italy towing the caravan, but that could just be a mind thing.

Loved the Anton and Giovanni Programme.

Allan, we are driving to Lake Garda early May, we used to do the journey in 3 days but as we are getting older, we also now have more time, we will take 5 days, I don’t think towing a caravan on some if the narrow roads round the Lakes would be a good idea, but we have seen it, a bit scary though. Other parts of Italy would be fine towing, you have the time give it a try one year.

Been to Italy many times, 2 x Lake Garda, 1 X Lake Como, 1 x Lake Maggiore and Pietrasanta. From those 4 places we visited many cities including, Venice, Milan, Florence, Verona, Pisa, all beautiful.

Thomas you made me laugh with a reminder of Pietrasanta, i had a terrible experience of being locked in the lavatory in a cafe while staying there.

For me it would have to be Japan, a unique culture with traditions and history going back as long if not longer than the UK. I have a friend who has worked out there off and on for over 10 years and loves it.

Allan, make the road trip to Italy.y while you can, sounds to me like your youthful towing days should remain closer to home. Drove on many vacations over there never booked ahead always found interesting over night accommodation in small villages or cities at reasonable prices. But you have to be young at heart to do that. The olternative as suggested, a little more pricy and more relaxing an organized tour.

Thanks but it’s now time to cut back long drives.

Not now as confident about driving long distances ( lack of driving during COVID) However did go in May last year to our usual campsite in the South of France ( too damm hot). Possibly of it being just as hot this year.

Maybe explore more of Northern France etc.

The costs have gone up, because I turned 80 in December the pcost of the travel insurance went up by £300 odd.

One reason for second thoughts is the 90 day limit in any 180 days. That negates our two trips each year that we used to do.

Will try to go May 2024.

Allen, went on some excellent bus trips usually 10 day ones, meals included. That being said your overnight bag has to be outside your accommodation ready for loading in the bus early am., Travel light. I would not want to go on any marathon self driving trips at your or my age., Hauling a caravan any distance also not a good idea,, Travel less but do it the easy way, worth the cost.

Geordieboy, my partner and I have done many bus tours to Italy and Spain, really enjoyed them all.

Sorry but no long bus rides for me Hate em. Did enough when young.

Don’t like hotels or b&b etc. unless I have to.

Cruise very much doubt it unless very special.

Hire a hatch or motor vessel more my line but just not on as my navigation skills rusty and difficult to get into a wet suit these days

Might look at flying to Sicily and a tour round the Island, that appeal’s but the flying ?

Allan looks like you are running g out of options, how about sit in your favourite easy chair, put your feet up on your suite case, bag of goodies in your lap, tell Ann to hurry up with supper before your favourite movie ends. No offense to the lady of the house, let your dog, if you have one, do the dishes, save a pot full of money to pay your taxes. Transportation and acomodarion solved.
