Fascinating 1933 shot

I've added all the locations to this 1933 photo from memory. From being a baby to when I was 9yrs I lived in an old upstairs Flat in Lyon St (Just 50 yards out of shot to the left) with a backyard toilet, no hot water. Then in 1953 we got a new Council house between the Slag Heap & First Lake with an indoor toilet, bathroom, hot water & gardens front & back. My Granda Dunn lived in Cuthbert and thought we were mad moving miles out in the Country away from all the shops.

A small bit of interest here..
There are only 4 x Prince Consort Roads in the whole of the country (mebee in the whole of the UK?)
One in Jarrow (I lived there one time)
One in Hebburn
One in Gateshead
One in Kensington London
Strange innit South Tyneside naming roads after Prince Albert.
And the rest of the country only naming one?
Which reminds me when I was digging the borders of my garden in our newly built rented property.
I dug up loads of coal and an 1858 shilling (I gave it to my youngest gandaughter) It has Prince Albert on once side and Victoria on the other.
It was badly marked and battered and I think it's value is about £40.00 now.
At the time I thought imagine some poor wife losing that it would be about a weeks wages then.
Then thinking about I know believe it was put into the foundations of a building being built then.
The place I am now in (no I am not giving my address away) might have been 1st built on 1958.
I definitely know the second build of a school drive and Tennis Court was built in 1960 (the school that was there had been built in the 1850s but 200 yards from where I dug up the coin)
Nowt left of the school or its surroundings now as it was demolished and dug up in 2015 and its rubble crushed and sold as hardcore)
And yes someone might say the coin could of been in the school foundations and when the school was demolished the debris scattered 200 yards and when the teeth on the digger scooped up the debris the coin fell through the teeth like the fingers on your hand and the caterpillar tracks embedded it into the undersoil...

Our build where I live (3rd build since the 1850s)
was built 2018 and finished early 2019 when we got the keys.

Werl yibuggerman what a story a little shilling can tell.

Mind it's ironic innit last year I asked the granddaughter who lives in Walker about the shilling and she said (not interested one bit)
I don't know it will be about somewhere? It's only a dirty old coin..
I should of kept it back for one of my great granddaughters 5 years old and 1 years old living in Hebburn

Though not shown on there Edmund Street my wife spent her early years there and went to Byegate Nursery then Quay School then Cleqwell.
She was born in Newmarket at a maternity unit there.
The first 3 years of her life she lived with her parents and grandparents at York Cottages, Newmarket.
Her grandfather was serving at RAF Bury St. Edmunds as a Flight Lieutenant at the time.
Strangely enough my late older brother was stationed at RAF Bury St. Edmunds in 1969 - 70 as Electrician (Ground) he demobbed years later at RAF Lossiemouth as a SAC Electrician (ground)
In 1946 my late mother was demobbed near Bury St. Edmunds at RAF Mildenhall as a LACW Flight Mechanic (Engines)
When she was 3 years old my wife and her parents moved to 72 Edmund Street, Hebburn.
Her father was born in Bede Buildings, Hebburn and her mother born Lavery Street Bill Quay.
My wife's younger brother born 72 Edmund Street demobbed a few years ago as Lieutenant Colonel RHA Alan Durrant MBE (he got his MBE as a Major in Operation Telic in Iraq) he joined up from school as a Bombardier in the RA and went through every non commissioned rank then commissioned as as a Captain then Major then Lieutenant Colonel.
Anyone going straight in a commission would go Lieutenant, Captain, Major then Colonel.
So segregation still exists in the forces even today so you can see who went straight in on a commission and who worked their way up the hard way.

Hi VIN,
in your post you mentioned Bede Buildings also a gentleman by the name of Alan Durrant my older brother went to the Quay Board school and a Alan Durrant was in class both of them went on to Clegwell during the end of the war 1945 ish.my brother is still with us and will be celebrating his 86 birthday this year.
Going back to Bede buildings a lad called Brian macBeth who lived a few doors away from the Durrant and was in my class at the Quay Board 1948 was killed out side his house by a workmans bus taking workers to Palmers the lad was on his way to school across the other side of Wagon Way.
It might be that the name Alan Durrant is a coincidence .

Alan Durrant was a big lad he also was a great swimmer he swam the English Channel the did his training swimming across the Tyne Hebburn to Wallsend.

Yes Tom that's him his nephew is Lieutenant Colonel RHA
Alan his nephew is still around and we got on well.

Yes Stan Norma is my wife and that was her parents.
She was born in Newmarket then Edmund Street in Hebburn then Blackpool Parade Hebburn then High Street Jarrow with me then Princess Street Jarrow with me then Prince Consort Road Jarrow with me.
Not saying where we are now you will have to wait about 5 years to find out where if you pay for it online....

Tom the Alan Durrant your on about was the uncle of the Alan Durrant I put on.
And my wife's uncle.
The Alan your on about was a big lad a Blacksmith who died young in his 40s early 50s in 1980ish
His father was Dickie Durrant head of Security at Leslie's during WW2 and after.
Prior to WW2 Dickie was a PC in Hebburn.
No wonder they did not want their niece their granddaughter marrying a Catholic and no wonder I got the first payoff and never got in Leslie's again.
Tuff innit they are all gone and she is still with me after 50 years.

Big Alan Durrant grabbed a hold of me when I was a Marine Plumber in Leslies in 1972 and nearly crushed my ribs to cheers from his pals a year later after I had been paid off and joined the stagers and had married his niece and my ribs where OK I pulled him In the platers shed and run rings round him keeping my distance and giving a good few clouts and wore him out and the lookers out who cheered a year later I give them a sore jaw.
Years later I gave his father Dickie his last shave and he said forgive me.
Just before Alan died at his house in Willington Quay he give me a gentle hug (he could of still crushed me) we both cried.
Alls fair in love and war but at the end of the day bear no grudges (grudges are the worst strain on your heart)
