That’s a bit more like it. It will give people time to save up money but maybe more importantly it may give a chance fo alternative fuels to come on line.

I think the Euro 6 cars could probably use alternatives but my Euro 4 will not.

The electric car quota hasn't been reduced, they overpriced the windpower auction and got no takers Ireland priced theirs more realistically and did well. The thinking isn't joined up, it's probably going to change again within 18 months.

My young neighbour who is an accountant at BMW, said they have just been given so many millions to build a new building for to build more Electric cars, which is good news for this area.

If we bought an E car we would have no problem in charging ( I think) as we have three phase electric power at home which is not used now.

The charging is the BIG problem I think.

All the terraced housing has limited areas for power points and no doubt all the housing on the estates will require a lot of investment and unless there was a massive uptake of buying E cars there will be a limited return on the investment required.

Yes you appear that you can charge from your house but it takes some hours so a lot of the overnight charging and cables all over the place.

Never seen any proposals on how they expect the charging to be done.

I expect hopefully to be able to drive for another 7 years but then?

Alan we have three neighbours with electric cars, one couple have one each., they all have charging points at the side of their homes. They look very neat. Apart from the Supermarkets providing charging points, in our area, the pub car parks are also providing charging points. We are too old to think of changing, as my husband will soon stop driving, but the ones in our close seem really good. I just wish we were younger😳

Charging points can vary speed wise depending on make and model. As Alan said certain types of houses will have serious problems as most terraces don't have off road parking so charging points will be problematic. Also in very cold weather some batteries like their charge very quickly. Availability of charging points in public areas are still very hit and miss depending on region and are particularly poor in rural areas.My brother in law has a tesla but he never travels far so hasn't had any problems, he was looking at a trip to the Highlands but decided against it as he didn't know what access to charging points would be like. The batteries are moving forward but some electric drivers are still reticent of certain journeys because of the ease of petrol/diesel journeys.

My husband just did a quick check, assuming we had an electric car and wanted to drive from Herefordshire today to Newcastle, he checked the electric charging stations on the northbound M1 and found that Tibshelf was out of service, has been for the last 3 days, Markham Vale out of service, Woodall was also out of service. I think that speaks for itself with regard to electric charging points at various service stations, before you set out on a long journey it would probably take you half a day checking on availability of charging points, no thanks I think we will stick with our diesel car for as long as we possibly can.

At my age (83) it’s extremely unlikely that I would purchase an electric car although we do have a charging point in our garage. If I were to change cars I would be looking at a Hybrid.

There are lots of opinions around from folk who don't have an electric car. I have a Skoda Enyaq iV60. Let me say
1. That those of us with our own charger do not have "cables all over the place"
2. Yes is can take 6/7 hours to charge a typical EV from a home point but the wise do it overnight, automatically. It makes running the car cheap as chips.
3. If you don't have a home charger, go to one, they are increasingly available. After all you currently go to a filling station to buy fuel!
4 My genuine range is 215 miles which is perfect for most of my trips but longer journeys need some planning. I travelled from home to Christon Bank earlier this month. I took the precaution of a 30 min top up at the fast chargers at Leeming Bar and had lunch and a coffee while I waited. Easy. In Northumberland I topped up a couple of times at the Ionity fast chargers in Alnwick while we shopped at Morrisons and Greggs (Stotty was delicious). Easy. Then on the way back a short top up again at Leeming. I didn't find any of the main route chargers out of order but the system in my vehicle would automatically direct me to a suitable working station if I had chosen one that proved to be a problem.

So make your choice. The new rules makes sense. EV cars are still required to make up the major part of new sales but many will choose to run their fossil fuel model or buy one second hand for the foreseeable future and I think that the fuel sources will be multi faceted.
