This modern Church in Jarrow is not old but the Council are demolishing it in August. Why could it not have been sold or rented to a Local business?
We had a 'Mountbatten Medical Centre' of a similar age in Hebburn & demolished. It is now grassland.

Definitely not a building of beauty and possibly/probably a second hand church is not suitable for alternative use?

A lot will depend on if it can be repurposed for other things at a reasonable cost other than a home or homes for some.

However you have to have a person or persons that can visualise what the building could be used for and those people are very thin on the ground.

Maybe the main hall could be a squash or badminton court etc. but the Money required to do that.

It’s also down to location. That can kill off any idea of what can be done.

It shows the demise of religious affairs churches closing.

There is a big old church in Harrogate that has been closed for yonks, no takers and limits on it’s possible use so it’s probably going to have to fall down and then the site cleared for houses.

Makes you wonder Norman, It seams all to easy just to demolish rather than utilise. Maybe the costs of refurbishment these days might be too high?

Looked at it on Google Street view. Nice building but useless for housing as in wrong place. Is the area a problem crime wise?

The Blue painted building near it is given a a library, is that correct? If so could not the Church be used as an extension for the library like research rooms and although it’ll never happen a medical practice, gym, or other public service venue.

Who owned to building and plot. Have they just passed it to the council for free.

It’s very stupid to demolish a good building that probably has no faults other than its design but that could be altered.

If that building came up for sale in the Harrogate area it could be snapped up depending on actual location.

I see that there is a LDS church at the end if the John Read Rd. So no chance of them taking it over.

Is it a case of small minds!

The Library was demolished just months ago so another example of how this Council must have a contract with a Demolition Company.

I thought it looked as if closed so is there a library in Jarrow ?

If not that’s criminal., but surely even they would not be as stupid.

JARROW have a building called the Focus which is similar to Hebburn Hub. But without a pool. I think the library is there.

The library is there, evidently there's also a theatre in the facility too as well as sports hall and fitness suite.
