I'm helping a lady in Massachusetts, USA, who's ancestors were from Hebburn. Her great grandfather was Daniel Sharpe who had a shop in long gone Hedley St. I sent her a photo of the shop along with more pics of the Sharpe family.
This photo she sent me is of Daniels' son, (her Grandfather) Matthew Toner Sharpe with his Hebburn born wife Sarah. He was given the middle name Toner out of respect for their St Aloysius Priest Dr Matthew Toner. His wifes names of Tallack & Gillon are names we've heard in Hebburn so can anyone add anything?

Try the 1939 records if the internet is back up. If anyone has Find My Past the 1921 Census is available on that site but it will cost!.

Name Tallack, was there a shop of that name?

yes there was Allan, I think it was on Station Rd.

It was Brian. A nice shop sold dresses etc. I think it was judt passed the Post Office.

Yes, Station Road. There was also a bread shop opposite the Gospel Hall along with Fred Mc Donald the barber and Alf Gibson's TV shop. There is a Peter Tallack and a George Tallack who lived in Mons Ave....

The bread shop was Tollicks my grandparents business at 24 V.R.W.between Meldrums (butchers) and Fosters (jewellers), they lived in Clennell Ave.

I vaguely remember that row of shops on VRW was there a barber’s among them.

Hope you are keeping well. It must be over 65 years since we last met at 119/ 121.

Yes there was a barbers as Stan said and as I remember the window was boarded up at the bottom,also on that block was Mc.Elwee ( ladies and children's clothing) and Eddy Wilkinson later Bucannons (sweets and tobacco).

Ken, just out of interest have you any idea what number they lived at in Clennel Avenue as that is where we live ?

No.1 the first bungalow on the right hand side,we lived at 119 V.R.W.and had a gate at the bottom of the garden into the side garden of my grandparents.

Dad’s sister Margaret and husband Alan took over 121 in 1960 after G/Pts died.

They were great friends with the folks in that bungalow and I think that I met them at Alan’s funeral about 2007 ish.

Were they part of your family or was the bungalow sold after your grandparents left.

The house was sold 1957 or 58 while I was in the RAF although my wife and I lived at 119 from 61 to 65 I didn't get to know the people in the bungalow.
