The Olympic track cycling yesterday

I saw the last 4 laps and thought what on Earth are they riding, the U.K. team.
It was the front fork seemed familiar to me, the fork legs are about 6-8” apart rather than the normal 3-4”
Looked it up. Bike made by Lotus of Colin Chapman fame.
The frame cost £25,000 the wheel a huge amount and total cost £55,000 Wow.
In one of today’s events there was a big crash and I think one of our riders involved and they say some bikes were written off.
I’m not surprised as they are build of carbon fibre and ultra light, strong enough to do what they are designed for but a lets say a side smack and it’s gone.
The team would scrap it anyway as there is no way of checking Carbon fibre I understand. It ma y look undamaged but it’s too risky to use again.
I just remember the way we used to hammer our bikes in the 50’s

For those still cycling and having difficulty in getting on and off the bike
Because I am not as agile as I used to be getting on and off the bike a problem.
I always look for a Step to aid me, usually a curb or a bit of raised ground.
Got sick of near falling off so I have just had fitted a dropper post fitted to my road e bike. A lever drops the saddle by 50 mm you can buy ones with larger drops but they tend to be for MTB’s.
I have just had this dropper post fitted and not tried it yet, tomorrow’s job.
On Wednesday I went out on my other road bike none e bike just to see if I could still ride it physically following my heart attack etc.
Delighted to say no bother at all except Slow. I went on my normal training route but the short version of 9 miles instead of 11.5.
I’m very suprised that today Not the slightest stiffness or other problems, I had expected to be knackered.
What I did notice is although both bikes a near identical in size I could get on and off the standard bike without too much bother.
Why could that be, the e bike is heavy and therefore more difficult to handle or am I getting a bit more flexible ( hope so)
I’m now going to try to ride my standard bike again, thank goodness it never sold two years ago.
E bike for hilly routes the standard for flatish routes.
I wonder if when away on holiday should I take both bikes !!
Both bikes great but they are different to ride, one more agile then the other.
