A big flaw in the proposals for the new housing.

The big long white sheds will not be there very long before the residents on the new housing start to complain about noise, smell etc.

That kind of thing happened at 2 places that I worked in both case it finally resulted in closure.

Looking at the housing there appears to be very little parking spaces for the residents.

No way that we would consider living in those apartments or houses. A future slum unless it is done Top End quality.

Where are all the people going to work. Health services where ?

We shall see.

Its the extra traffic as well.. Roads are bad enough..

I trust they will arrange for some public transport for down there, as none has ever went down that way before, so a car and parking is essential.

It is only an 8 minute walk at its extreme point and there are already houses down there so I really do not see the need.
I have noticed a growing inability to walk. In surrounding towns where I now live I now see buses going into estates with unsuitable road layout when a walk to the bus route is just minutes away.

What?, An 8 minute walk up and down Ellison St in the all the bad weather we have with children? carrying shopping and the likes several times a day up to Argyle bus stops? I don't think so, not these days anyway, could even start the ferry up again? It dosen't have to be a Double Decker bus on a regular timed route Mac. just a central stop and shelter out side the housing Estates, I'd bet NO One living down there is without a car or some sort of private transport, we are not all as fit as you Mac.

I am 80 John and far from being an athlete but an 8 minute walk doesn't cause me problem.
I do appreciate that there are some elderly and disabled who need help and transport. Families used to help. That seems "yesterday"!
But as you say there will be few living down there without a car and therefore a bus will probably not be financially viable.
And a key will be whether the provision of a diversion to the present bus route is a condition of the Planning Permission via what is called a Section 106 agreement.

The powers that be, want people to use bikes instead of cars.

Some places are a bit like Ellison St. but shorter, not quite as steep.

I suspect that the only ones that are going to ride bikes are those that do so already for pleasure.

You cannot exactly go shopping on a bike unless it it one of those Cargo bike or a bike equipped with panniers etc.

Then the probability that it will get nicked if you park it even locked up.

Ride a bike to work, no chance in a lot of cases you would need a set of clothes at work and have changing and shower facilities.

Been there, done that , years ago.

The ride to work down here from Knaresborough to Harrogate has 2 hills. Even if at my fittest would only do that ride a max of twice a week but more like once a week when Ann required a car.

The thought of riding to work, a shower and change and then start work then do it all again on returning home.

Of course you could just be sweaty and stink in the office YUK.

That’s at least an hour lost each day plus additional traveling time that could add up to 2 hours of more. No way.

The solution was a second car and Ann then got a job in Harrogate .
