Furnace Row? - a question in connection with family history

I've been researching my family history off and on for many years. In the 1871 census, my 2 x great grandfather and his family were living at 12 Furnace Row, Hebburn Colliery. Does anyone know exactly where that would have been? I've attached a description by the enumerator.

I believe Furnace Row was part of High Lane Row.

Susan, it would help if you gave the surnames of your ancestors at Furnace Row as your doc is difficult to read.
Here is a section of a 1895 Map of the Colliery. Ive looked through my maps & none had Furnace Row on. The suggestion it could have been part of High Lane Row sound right as there were 2 shops registered for Furnace row.
Gill Christopher, Shopkeeper, 52 Furnace Row, Hebburn Colliery.
Southern John, Shopkeeper, 74 Furnace Row, Hebburn Colliery.

Hi Norman. My ancestors lived at number 12 and the surname was Tweddell.

I believe the words in the picture say, "part of the twonship of Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow comprising what is know as Hebburn Colliery consisting of Furnace Row, High Lane Row, B Pit, Clemention (?) Row, Wagonman's Row, Crop (cross?) Row, Chaple Row, the Square, Storehouse Row, Quality Row, Smokey Row, A Pit, Redhead Terrace, Bede Buildings, Jarrow Woodhouse and Cork (?) Row, the Waterside including Hebburn Villa, the Royal Hotel and Leadworks."

Furnace Row could be a line of houses on a road or street.

An example Newton Terrace was/ is on Victoria Road now Victoria Road West.

On a post card that I have it was called Newton Villers I think as it got to G/F..

In the late 1940s early 1950s as kids in the Quay the pit yard was our main play ground,at the back was Leslie's ship yard with a 8 feet tall wall bottom of the wall where there was a small holdings that had hens chickens and goats one a Billy goat we used to try and ride on its back the man who had it was a local guy called Tweddle,old Tweddely as we nicknamed him was not liked buy us kids we used to give him the runaround not sure if he lived in Dunston st? Happy days

According to the book "The Streets of Hebburn" Furnace Row was also known as Low Lane Row and consisted of 34 properties which started opposite to where the Kingdom Hall is today and ran down to where Simpson's Hostel used to be until it came to Blackett Street. I've marked Furnace Row/Low Lane Row in Red on the map.

In my 1910 rates list with occupants names, High Lane row numbers were 1 to 110 so quite a long row.
No Tweddell's in that row and there was no Low Lane Row then.
There was a Richard Tweddell in Campbell St 1910.

I lived in Hebburn Quay area in the late 40s into 50s and there was a Jimmy Tweddell my age ie b1944 living in William St.
We also had a Tweddel's Shop in Hebburn if this is any help.

And I recall a Frankie Tweddell in the Queens Crescent area in the early 60's....

There's a Frankie Tweddle lives in Dukes Avenue aged 74.

Peter! WOW Must be they guy I knew, vaguely, as I'm 68, that's a 6 year age difference...about right, maybe.
And still living there.

I used to go to school (Clegwell) with him and went to his house once or twice. He still lives in the same house along with his brother Jim.

Thanks for the info. Just for the record, I've done quite a bit of family research. There are lots of Tweddells from Hebburn including my dad and his family. I'll check out the names mentioned as I don't recognise them although I think Tweddell's shop was owned / run by cousins of my grandad.

I've double checked my research and Catherine's husband, Thomas Tweddell, was indeed the first cousin of my grandfather, also called Thomas although my Thomas, born in 1905, was 15 years younger than his namesake. My dad used to talk about how he helped out in the shop when he was in his teens (my dad was born in 1936).

Tweddle also had a shop on the corner of lyon st and ellison St across the road from the commercial pub.

Re, Tweddlll Family. There was a family Tweddill family living in Campbell Street when I was a you lad, mid 1920 to late late 1939.Left hand side even numbers.Can not recall exact number, top half probably. I lived in number 15, right hand side.
Many families with same name posing up, wether all related??Q.
This one had a daughter,Alison --I think!
