Another Britain from Above aerial view looking into Hebburn before all the building work started.As usual I've added locations.
That's Jone's Brickyard (discussed on a thread below) alongside the British Railways line to Sunderland .

I cannot remember it at all but do remember going to the fields near where is was or used to be say 1948 ish to play in a hedge bottom where we had made I think a sort of Den.

Looking at the fields from the brickworks towards the top of Mill Lane.

From the brickwork smoke around to what we called “Gallons Farm “ at C there is a distinct curve which is presumably a stream/ streams that eventually fed down to the lakes.

Lakes filled by water seepage from the brickworks area? There doesn’t seem to be a distinct watercourse to feed the lakes.

I remember that we used to walk up a hill to a tree line to get to the quarry from Mill Lane in early 50’s.

The 'Burn' that fed the Ellison families new ponds came from Wardley & passed Mill House Farm and on towards Burn Heads Farm hence the name.
Part of Wardley was wet land so when the Romans wanted their Roman Rd to get from South Shields to Wrekenton across Wardley they had to chop Trees down and lay huge numbers of them down and then build their road ontop of this.
Today you can still see that the road is higher than the land alongside it between White Mere Pool and the east end of Leam Lane estate. Notice I called it by its real name of 'white mere pool' not ;white mare pool'. Mere means a wide but shallow lake.

This is a great photograph. I grew up living in 63 Lambley Crescent. You can clearly see in the photo that it wasn't built in 1937. The deeds to the house show that it was built in 1938.

One thing I love about this photo is that you can see the reservoir at the top of Mill Lane, a big memory from my early childhood. I wish there were more photographs of it in existence, especially from the 1970s.

If you look on Google Street View you will see that a lot of houses have been modified in various ways, new windows, extensions to fronts, sides, back and roof.

Mum & Dads house in Crawley Ave appears to have doubled in size and then a big studio type thing in the back garden.

I wonder if they got value for money as to me they went a bit OTT.

But there again we have moved home about 12 times mostly for business.

In my early years we lived at 1 Blue House Road, trying to identify where that will be on the view.

hi Mac,
'E' is the covered reservoir on Mill Lane-Victoria Rd West corner. Bluehouse Rd is just above it and to the right.

Hi Mac, Blue House Road isn't built yet on this photo, but it would have run perpendicular to Victoria Road West, along the side of the covered Reservoir, marked "E" on the picture.

It's amazing how little of the part of Hebburn I grew up in exists in this photo! I remember being told by people that it used to all be fields, and in this picture it's true!

Amazing (to me, anyway) that all of those allotments around the cemetery disappeared to make way for Queens Crescent, Toner & Johnstone Avenue etc...

As i was born in Queens Crescent, it appears that I was born in a former cabbage patch..... Go figure!!
