I have to applaud the divers that have worked to recover the bodies.

Top notch guys assisted by a ROV.

Working at that depth with not a lot of natural light very hard.

Yes you can get lighting down there and no doubt they did.

Wreck penetration is a dodgy business at any time but helped in this case as everything in newish.

How they did it will become a basis of dive planning in rescue circles.

Working in confined spaces bad partly due to your dive gear.

Such a shame that Hannah the 18yr old daughter of Mick Lynch who was really looking forward to going to Oxford University in September is dead.

What a cruel world this can be.
There is something very very very fishy about this terrible incident especially when the Captain has survived . Then we find that Mick Lynch's fellow defendant at their recent Court case also died but this one was in a car crash. Coincidence?

What happened to , when a ship/ yacht is in trouble the captain stays with his ship/ yacht.

Didn’t a Greek Captain escape his ship when lots of passengers lost their lives.

Was that the Costa Concordia, I think there was a manslaughter charge brought against that Captain.

I thought Maritime Law was that the Captain stayed with the vessel until all passengers were off, not being a Marine expert I cou,d entirely wrong - I am sure someone out there will correct me!

In the UK and the USA there is no law which states that a Master of a vessel has to be the last one to leave in the event of the vessel being in peril.
However in Italy a Master has to be the last to leave by law

That a Captain should go down with his ship. Cobblers, folk law?

To me the duty of a Captain or Master or senior officer or crew member is to get off as many passengers and crew as possible.

Many Captains have survived the loss of his ship and face an inquiry as to the cause of the loss. It’s probably a Court Martial in the Royal Navy or Court of enquiry.

A Captain May have to transfer his command to another vessel to try to ensure his passengers and crew are taken care of.

In any emergency in ships or building etc there are designated assembly points where check can be made that every one has exited the ship or building. But it’s never as easy as that as we all know.

In this case those lost were never able to reach the deck, were they trapped by furniture movement etc.

Let’s wait for the enquiry

Hi Norman, I speculated on that on an earlier post, looked fishy.

However, it wasn't a car crash that killed the co-defendant, he was jogging along a country road, and was hit by a car, and killed.

The driver DID stop, and called the police.

So nothing sinister there, just a tragic accident, but odd timing?

I think that they may well do so but why?

Maybe because it is within normal diving limits and the value of the hull and contents make it a target for all and sundry!

How would they bring it to the surface.

That may depend on if the mast is still intact. If it is, lifting with a crane probably not on. That way expensive!

They could cut away the mast and that would make recovery far easier.

I would expect that lifting bags best bet as you can use multiple bags and need no mechanical connection with the vessel. You use slings.

Lifting bags were used on the lighter ships sunk in Scapa Flow and raised 1920’s on.

The insurance company will have a big say in what happens unless the Italian authorities take or keep control for any court proceedings.

You never know but maritime law could be modified by this.

Why an I interested in what happens. By just being an ex Diver and reading how the wrecks in Scapa Flow were raised plus others around the world.

I have actually seen a big fishing boat raised in Tobermory harbour using lifting bags. It was moored 20 yards from us one night and on the bottom the next morning and raised 4 days later. We were able to watch it as we return from diving around Mull.

They will wish to compare everything on the vessel to what information came from the Black Box recovered yesterday. There is nowt like a full visual inspection.

I expect lifting bags to be used as she was only around 500 GT and they are available off the shelf. Crane very expensive and most will be on other jobs.

It would not surprise me if she was recovered and repaired and sold on.

It’s said to be worth £30million before it sunk.

Depending on the damage level it could be repaired and sold on.

The scrap value could be high but I think it will be raised regardless. Anyway they may just move it to deeper water to prevent divers going down to it.

Just have to wait and see.

The family are paying for it to be raised.This vessel is a toy compared to some the likes of SmitTac and others have brought to the surface in various parts of the world

The question could end up who did what and when or even not do.

It seems that there was very freak weather, some form of downdraught or deluge has been mentioned.

I have a feeling that what happened may never be known just a list of possibilities.

Was it possible that the deluge was so heavy that an upper deck hatch to the flying bridge was open and got down below the main deck and caused instability.

This downdraught thing I have never heard of before, it may have been observed before but no person has been in one or survived one.

We shall see.
