Byron Ave. in Hebburn when was it built?

Ann’s parents and sisters lived in no. 37 on the 1939 register.

They had lived in the quay before that.

37 is a two storey house not the bungalows which I assume were built first as they are lower numbers.

We looked at that yesterday and it’s lost let’s say some of its soul. No plants and the gates for the car gone.

Rather disheartening.

We looked at our old Hebburn home in Crawley Ave. which had been my parents home and that modified extensively.

Just part of the Google Street View system not actual things or objects.

Basically you can walk your way up any street or road sitting in your armchair.

I often used it to look at the old family houses in Hebburn that are still standing.

However more importantly I use it to check out how to get to places.

A for instance. There is a roundabout in Orleans, France that is a dodgy to get round to the road that I want. I go on Street view and visually drive the route I require to go. It makes it so easy.

Used it since I could access it and it saves a lot of hassle when driving if you “ know” the road.

It’s a very valuable tool. It helps even if using a Sat Nav.

I’ve checked out the access to campsites, parking areas and just roads that I think may be a problem when towing.

In the last few weeks we’ve had to go to various places in Leeds so used it to plan the route and check out exactly where we should go. Of course you have to memorise what you see. That tight corner just before the entrance to the car park at one of the Leeds Hospitals.

So you know the extent that I have used Google Maps and its Street view.

We used to go to the South of France twice a year via various routes. Ferry from Hull or North Shields, Dover, Newhaven or the Tunnel at Folkestone.

I have sort of driven every route that we have ever used using Google maps before going. Checked out the entrance and exits of the ports, the route through towns and cities etc. possible squeeze points.

It’s a 1,000 miles from home to where we used to go if going from the south coast. 650 if Hull.

Through time and many trips I knew all the routes having memorised them. Still used the Sat Nav and rechecked the routes on Google maps for road changes. Over a period of about 5 to 10 years they were building roads like crazy in France.

The N7 Nevers area and to the South of it was changing every year and was difficult to keep up with and all maps out of date.

Oh yes they were building a by pass around XYZ last year, is it finished and has Google been updated.

There is many a city or town that I wish to look at and maybe visit, Google Street view lets me see it from my chair.

Download it to your phone and it is there j i c.
