My nana and grandad would have walked that street many times.Even mam pushed in her pram .Thank you lovely photo.

Maria, my first pair of earrings were from Jarrow Woolworths. I can still remember them. They were painful to wear but I didn’t mind the pain, I just loved having earrings , ,but had to hide them from my father as he thought I was too young for earrings. I was 16.

Sheila can only wear clip ones had them pierced twice always sore with any pierced earrings .

Was 15 first time ocean road .sore let them close tried few years later even gold ones same again gave up.

But Woolworth's was not in Ellison St. It was on Ormonde St and opened in 1931 and then moved to The Arndale in the sixties.

It’s the Ormonde Street Woolworths I was talking about, I think it was on a corner.

Yes. Shops businesses all the way down on the left to the "Mechanics" then a short gap and more shops until Ormond St.
But the more important, substantial, businesses were on the right as we look at the photo
That is how I remember it from the 50's

Ormonde St Woolworths had a curved corner window, same as Burtons!
