Come on! Ocean Road cannot have a slope like that.

The lifeboat and memorial are level with the beach, if Ocean Road went downhill like that, it would be under water every high tide.

That photo was doctored by L.S.Lowry by the look of it.

There is a high spot where Lawe Road meets Ocean road. The road falls away from that point in both directions but not by much and you would need an OS map with the levels marked on it.

However as I remember there was a gradual fall from Lawe Road down to the Pier end.

If you look on Google street view at look towards King Street the Lamp post appear the get shorter but of course their not it’s parallax.

In the photo I think the buildings towards Kings Street beyond Lawe Road have been painted in.

Someone could just walk it!

Norman the road looks as though it has been raised a little over the years ? I'm baffled on this one !

I looked at the very same recent picture but could not extract it from Google earth. What took me by suprise was the road is reaching back into the town and not towards the sea. The early photo is taken from the same viewpoint with the camera on the Marine Park side of the road pointing back into the town. My opinion.

Both photos show a very gentle slope up to where the Law Rd junction is on the right.
