Autumn/ winter planting

Almost everything in we need to plant now, got the rest of the onions in today, garlic going in in the next fortnight, spring cabbage and Kale in, Pak Choi and Mizuna is in the greenhouse, sprouts plants doing OK but no sprouts showing as yet. Charlotte potatoes in barrel planters doing well but will move into greenhouse before frost hits. lifted the last of the leeks today still have some chilli's ripening in greenhouse so they'll get another week before lifting.
Making a green tomato and courgette Chutney tonight and cooking apples for chilli jelly tonight for Sunday.
Pickling onions ordered, waiting to hear if my friend has any spare damsons for Christmas jam . Next week am making a batch of spiced quince vodka with a friend who has a tree but doesn't know what to do with the fruit, we will also make a jam or membrillo with the rest.

My wife is getting into fermenting food and is making kim chi and I am having a go a wild yeast cultivation using herbs and apples as the source hopefully it will work as they can be used for breads and drinks. They are very good for gut health and are tasty too. If the culture works I should be making bread with it in 10 or so days so it's wait and see, fingers crossed.

Wow, Brian that is some planting and cultivating, as well as jam making etc, hope it all works out well, admire your determination and efforts.

we have made a batch of rosemary salt to use during cooking, great when cooking lamb. Garlic, chilli and an Italian herb salt to come.

Sounds lovely, Rosemary salt will be nice on roast potatoes or on sauté potatoes.

We have used it on roast potatoes, it works really well

We did wound it up when I reached retirement age, covid played havoc with the craft fairs and food f markets and the year before I had both my knees replaced so doing the fairs was hard that year. To be honest there wasn't the money at the fairs, everyone was skint. A pal of mine who had been doing it around 20years wrapped for the same reason.
I now do it purely for fun and friends.

I do, spent an hour this afternoon dry frying whole spices for the Chutney to draw out the flavours before grinding them.
