Human Kindness

This happened in Liverpool but I thought it would show just how human kindness still exists.
A children's Hospice called Zoe's Place was about to close at Christmas due to the lease ending and it needed £6M to survive in 30 days. The entire city got together doing stunts, walks etc and it seemed an impossible task in such a short time. Home Bargains gave £2.5M to kick it off and at the last minute we reached the £6M ! We are stunned that it did!! However, children even gave their pocket money in and the emotion still runs high with all of us. However, Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs gave nothing which has upset a lot of people, but it has shown that this human kindness is one that will give dying children the care that is needed so much...

Watched a little girl on TV who is there .Esme beautiful she was on this morning .So glad they made the amount needed The football clubs should hang there heads in shame.

Dose it not sicken you that these people organise and start up these sort of charities and can't afford to run and manage them, I just wonder how much money has gone to hangers on and un registered staff, no books to account for business costs, then all of a sudden their asking for £ millions of pounds to help them stay afloot, I wounder when the last Audit was carried out? Because children are involved people are jumping in with untold £ millions to help , but will be back again for more help. Yes Stan we see time and time again human kindness and people taking advantage of it.

Many people donate anonymously. Footballer Trent Alexander donated a 'huge' sum.
I totally agree with what John Shearer said about how these Hospice managers are 'pretty useless'.

John and Norman, I agree, the wrong people are given the jobs. The Hospice in Oxford , Sobel House, was first in a part of the Churchill Hospital. It is still in the Hospital Grounds, but a beautiful separate 20 bed building was built in 2003. I visited our late neighbour there. I was amazed at the young doctors who had chosen to specialise in end of life care, which makes me wonder about the race for assisted dying. Please don't start a discussion about a difficult topic. I was just saying how young doctors care for hospice patients.

The lease ran out and the nuns wanted the building back so the £6m is to aquire another building backASAP.

Watching this morning started my day of with a few tears .They had to find another property and they can now Good Luck .

If anyone is interested ,the first children’s Hospice was Helen House, in Oxford. Helen lived in Abingdon. Her father was a scientist at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. She was a beautiful child blonde child . Sadly as a toddler, she had a brain tumour. After it was removed she was paralysed. Her parents friend a C of E Nun, sister Frances Dominica, used to help with her care and they suggested a Hospice for children. Lots of raising funds for the project it was opened in the grounds of the Nunnery in Oxford in 1982. Sadly Helen died aged 26., she has two younger sisters. At the time fund raising started it was only at Harwell. I always will remember her father’s name. Dr Keith Worswick, because of the Newcastle bus ststion.

Sheila, when we lived in Buckinghamshire there was a Helen House charity shop in Amersham, we moved from Buckinghamshire 10 years ago so don’t know if it is still there.
