On visiting my dentist yesterday, concerned about drivers ability etc

The A61 from Ripon to Harrogate is a bit twisty and in most parts max speed about 50 mph or less.

Anyway came up behind this car which was sort of all over the South bound portion of the road.

I wondered if the driver was maybe drunk.

I stayed well back, the driver was travelling along at at between 1 and 1 1/2 car lengths of the car in front..

It looked like an accident waiting to happen.

After about 4 miles the driver turned off to the right and I saw that the driver was a lady from foreign parts about 25 - 35 ish..

This is the worst bit of driving that I have seen for some time, how could I put it Very very inexperienced.

These days I find that a lot of drivers seem to have no idea about driving safely.

Also as been doing some night driving over the last week the amount of cars with headlights not working or not aligned correctly, break lights out.

On modern cars the LED headlights can blind you and now you find that you cannot see the traffic indicators as they are so small.

Not a grumble Allan, but all so true, some very bad drivers around these days.

I heard recently that Drivers with dash cams have been sending copies of dangerous driving to the Police and the Police act on it as its been a good help.

The Parking break is electrically operated.

To me that is stupid. OK car electrics are better than they were but a mechanical one far safer and you can use it partially which I doubt you can with an electric one.

Maybe I am just too much old school!

Alan,The mechanical hand brakes are only safer if you remember to apply it,like me and others how many times have you forgot ?
The electric brakes are 100% safer switch off your ignition and the electric hand brake is applied auto maticly in new cars

Never failed to put on the hand break but have once or twice not put it on hard enough and found that breaks needed adjustment.

As I will not have a car without a proper hand break it doesn’t matter.

Regretfully modern cars are filled with gizmos that I do not need. In fact I think that these gizmos are a distraction.

I do not use the radio/ CD player very often maybe four times a year. My hearing now poor in that music is distorted, pity as I had a lot of CD’s. Wonde where they are, some drawer or box.

I know what you mean, Allan. I'm still working through my wifes' latest car, a 3 year old Renault Kadjar.... managed to turn off the stupid lane wandering warning, (REALY!!)and a few others..

As to the handbrake...on a button? still can't figure out how you can do a hill start, as you have to have your foot on the foot-brake, before it will release....doesn't make any sense!!

My car has auto hold (no button) when you stop which solves the problem you mention re hill starts. Just touch the accelerator and off you go.
It also automatically engages the hand brake when the car has stopped and the door is opened.
As I get up from my seat it switches the radio and ignition off.
There is also a switch that allows me to apply the brake manually if I choose.
I am disappointed however that it doesn't currently make coffee

My problem is confusion when I get into my wife's car. Use an ignition key? Manual Hand brake? Gears?
Happily I still have all those skills but I have been known to get out of Jean's car, leave and forget to switch it off........! With the resulting rollicking!!!

This is precisely why drivers should have dash cams in there cars. Designed to record incidents as they happen ,whether they be accidents, bad driving etc. Do you self a favour folks who drive and buy a dash cam this Christmas.

Ricky I recall that you recommended a camera from Halfords which can be wired in by them.
Can you remind me please if it was you!!

No Mac, that wasn't me. I find the cameras from Halfords very expensive so wouldnt recommend them, although they may be very good. I have always bought my cameras from the oversea's sites.....without any problems I might add. I bought one of these recently and have just ordered another 2 for friends. It only takes them about 9 days to arrive. 2 cameras in one, well worth the money.
