Sad news for music lovers

J G Windows store in Newcastle has closed with effect from today.
All the employees have been made redundant. Another specialist business lost to internet competition.

It was sold last year, I don't know if it was a local or national company but one of the first things they did was close down the record label and video label.

Windows. Often in there to by strings for my violin up to end of 1957.

One I left Clegga dropped playing, I was useless player anyway. Hated every minute of it but did as I was told.

That might be a bit strong but that’s my recollection.

Is the frontage of the Windows store listed and must be retained?

Spent many an hour browsing around in there, even my children loved the place. Yes the Internet has killed a lot of traditionl business as we knew them. (RIP Windows)

Very sad news that Windows has closed. I remember reading a couple of years ago that it was being sold and that the employees were going to try to buy it and keep it open. Don’t know if that ever happened.

I bought a lot of records there over the years and remember going in with friends on a Saturday afternoon to look at the guitars downstairs.

When I was back in the UK in 2019 I even took my wife to see the shop as it had been such an iconic part of my youth.

I have to think that an offer was made for all the stock because they had adverts for the Black Friday sale for the past week or so.

They were on some stuff, you couldn't haggle for a deal there too like you would elsewhere.
