Hebburn in WW11 air raids. this prompted by Elizabeth below

I have very little knowledge of the air raids that Hebburn suffered.

I know about Ann St. down the Quay and the bomb outside the CWS on Lyon St..

The only other was that Dad told me that an incendiary had gone through the roof of MrAnd Mrs Cram ( the milkman) across the road from our house in Crawley Ave. Dad got the family out being the ARP on duty at the time. The incendiary had landed on their bed.

The house not badly damaged I understand.

Other than those I know nothing. A big gap in my knowledge.

Tyneside must have had a pounding because of the shipbuilding and other industries but is there a book or books that tell more.

Allan, these war diaries are absolutely brilliant.
Just type in 'H' for Hebburn and it will give you lists of info on ww2 Hebburn bombings.

First I find that I was born on a Sunday and that there were no recorded air raids that day.

One very interesting item was that anti aircraft shells caused a lost of injuries and damage. I need to read more on that.

You would get shrapnel falling down but maybe these were shells that failed go off until they hit the ground type thing.
