Danger from Chinese built products
Posted by Allan Campbell on 18/1/2025, 11:58 am
It’s mooted that Chinese build cars could lock up our road network and should be banned from being sold in U.K.
I can see where the ex MI 6 chief is coming from and would not be surprised that it’s possible.
For years the likes of BMW and Mercedes etc have been able to access their cars. If you require say a new headlight unit for your BMW it is all done via the internet back to the factory in Germany by the local dealer. All parts that have electric connections are the same plus those that are controlled by the ECU etc.
That is done so that you can only have the manufacturers genuine parts fitted to prevent rouge/ none compatible parts being fitted but also stolen parts.
I thought about buying an MG car but it’s Chinese built.
My problem is that if I buy a electronic product is it spying on me. Not that it matters as any info gathered I think would be of no use.
However when it comes to computers ( intend to replace my old ones this years)there could be a problem but that’s way over my head.
It’s not the Chinese people it’s their government.
