just saw a Michael Portillo travel programme where he visited my home town of Pinjarra and the place where homeless boys were sent from the UK after the war. Fairbridge was where they were sent to which is a tourist attraction now. I worked there for a while as a volunteer. A hard life for the young boys sent there.

Bill, I have read a few books about this most evil decision the government used to get rid of children who it was decided was costing a lot of money. It was thought these children were orphans, but they were children in care, who had families . I knew a girl when we lived in Somerset and her dad had been in care and remembered a little sister. He eventually found her about 50 years later. She had been sent to Canada, but her older brother was given to a local farming family, to work in the farm. I was shocked to read this was still going on in the 1960’s.
