Heathrow Airport a third runway?

To me it seems ludicrous to have a third runway there.

Then there will be too many flights plus additional traffic around it.

It’s bad enough as it is.

How is it going to help the economy, not a lot.

Thank goodness don’t live near an Airport,, LBA just far enough away not to hear planes, excluding the RAF from Leeming.

If this Government want to increase growth it might be a better idea to upgrade local airports, like Newcastle, Teeside that kind of thing.

As usual no thought given they just wade straight in head first!!!

Heathrow runway and Family firms

I can see the Third runway being to the North of the existing ones.

But how is that going to grow the economy.

They are hitting small firms in particular family run ones.

But a lot of family firms turned into much bigger companies in later years.

To some extent a family firm could be classed as a startup company.

I feel that they have no idea.

There has been talk of the need for a third runway at Heathrow for many years. A report said the expansion could give the UK economy a £100million boost by 2040. So nothing we should worry about, but it might just give future generations jobs etc.

The South is saturated with airports, its time we had a new one in the North.

We don’t need one as there is one now not used as part shut down a few years ago I assume not enough people used it to justify its upkeep by Airlines. That’s Teeside International.

I gather there is money being put into it but not read much about it.

In any case it would have to be an old ex RAF one and most now built on, repurposed etc. quite a few in the York area.

You would never get approval for a new site anywhere in the North.

Tees-side airport is operational Allan.
But the concentration on Heathrow is because it is an international hub. That is the key factor!

I can’t understand why when HS2 was given the go ahead they didn’t go with having HS2 start at Heathrow a much better option than starting in central London. If you arrive by plane and wanted to get to Birmingham using a train you wouldn’t want to spend nearly an hour getting into central London then getting, what will be an extremely expensive, train up to Birmingham, no thought given.

Liz, the new Elizabeth line will get you from Heathrow to London Paddington to station in less than 45 minutes. It’s made a big difference to London. It also goes to a Reading .

We haven’t lived or commuted into London in quite a number of years so a bit rusty on new transport lines, my interest in HS2 was purely personal as the route chosen resulted in us loosing money when selling our house, we also spent a fortune towards legal costs trying to stop the construction. The devistation in the Buckinghamshire area is unbelievable, I feel sorry for people who, for various reasons, are unable to move from the area.

Liz, I remember seeing pictures of the beautiful homes being destroyed. I also remember it was said by some, that it was pure spite by the Labour lot who just hated the Chilterns.

Exactly Mac C, I have Traveled thousands of miles by air and always come home via Amsterdam because Heathrow was just too busy and inconvenient, both ways.

Also heard that Rachel from Accounts was going to re-open Robin Hood airport (was RAF Finningly)

So she'll pop up down there & cut a ribbon, and pronounce it "OPEN"

NOT that simple, Rachel. Only Thompsons really used it, for package holidays, and they've gone elswhere.
Closed due to lack of business....So is she going to magically create trade, to make it viable? She DOESN'T have a clue about business...

And she was wrong today, interviewed on TV; "we haven't built a new airport since the 1940's"

WRONG...Sheffield City airport was built from scratch in the 1990's, and closed due to lack of business...

WRONG..London City airport, opened about the same time? still operating...

Oh, and dodged every question about her "dodgy CV"..

Rachel from Accounts should have been removed by now but Starmer is just as much a fake as she is so ignores the fact she lied in her CV.
That is a stackable offence anywhere else but not in politics apparently.

Teeside - Reading about it on the internet it appears it’s been very up and down over the years. A few airlines in and out.

It’s getting a big boost but from military training for the RAF. How that fits in with commercial passenger flights ?

Doncaster-Sheffield airport closed but can it reopen, opposition re climate etc.

So only Newcastle and Teeside airports to carry the load no chance for another one in the NE.

Regretfully it seems that London is the King as is Edinburgh and they are going to stay that way.

Everywhere else just not in the running it seems, Pity.

What happens about Heathrow or another airport goodness knows. However an increase in aircraft density would worry me.

I used to fly direct to Newcastle Airport from Canada now have to fly into Heathrow arriving
about 2200 hours, hotel it over night then shuttle flight up to Newcastle the next day. Costly and time consuming.
