Migrants etc.

Interesting to read all the posts on here recently about migrants etc. I remember when I taught at a school in Southall, west London, in the 1990s, every week it seemed like we would get a handful of new kids from Somalia. Afghanistan or wherever, didn't speak a word of English, no idea how to conduct themselves in a school environment.

We had to get on with it and educate them the best we could, but we used to wonder how all these kids - and their families - were getting into the country. Some were refugees, for sure, but all of them?

This was 30 years ago, so how many more are coming now that we have mobile phones, email, internet and all the rest of it to communicate with those back home.

My point in posting this is that in the intervening 30 years we have had how many different governments in the UK? And none of them have had the appetite to do anything about this issue. The fact is, I fear, that too much of the agriculture, food service, hotel businesses etc. depends on under-the-table, low-wage labour from these immigrants.

The billionaires who donate to and therefore own the political parties couldn't stand to see their profits diminished by having to do everything above board. It's exactly the same here in the US.

Your post is perfectly acceptable Andrew.
I remember when we young our UK population was 50 odd million.
Now it is around 70 million.
Where are these migrant.invaders going to work?
I passed a Carwash in Jarrow today and saw quite a lot of young African Heritage men working there.Do they pay NI & Taxes?

A lot of these car washes pay them buttons and NI etc isn't a consideration from either, just want job done as cheap as possible an they take the risk of being caught. I believe there's a minimum penalty of £1,000 per illegal worker.

A few years ago, Customs & Police had a session of raids on these cars wash places, and nail bars... almost all of them illegals, working "off the grid", cash in hand, no NI or tax..

Can't remember what the outcome was...probably none of them deported, or even fined...they just disappear, and reappear elsewhere, doing the same stuff..

We are rubbish at stopping this!! Just paying lip service occasionally, to make a head-line..

As I said in my original post, there's no appetite on any government's part to address the problem. Things being as they are doesn't help the immigrants (trapped working in slave conditions forever) or the citizens of the host society (paying taxes for benefits for housing etc).

Countries like the UK and USA have aging populations and lowering birth rates so need some immigration to keep the workforce viable. However, it needs to be managed so that it is all done LEGALLY and everyone concerned pays the correct taxes and NI contributions etc.

Unfortunately, nobody on the left or the right seems to want to tackle this.

Agree with you, up to a point, AGS, but these particular people do NOT add to the economy of a country...

Car washes & nail bars are hardly vital to the countries economy, as most, or all of the CASH (and it IS cash) probably goes strait abroad to support families, and NO tax or NI paid.....

And employers that are made to adhere to the rules too, no cash in hand, dodging ni , tax and everything else.

Absolutely right, Malcolm, a good immigration policy should be bringing people into the country who can fill the shortfall in skills, wherever that shortfall lies.

Like in New Zealand, for example, if you want to apply to immigrate there you have to either have a trade that is in demand, e.g. nurses or engineers, or be applying to enter as an investor who is going to start a legitimate business that will employ people.

We have about 14 Turkish Barber's in our town and they only take cash. These meetings in Davos called the world economic forum , are attended by world business men and are Globalists. No borders, one world.

We are the same Sheila, Turkish Barber's every where you look, last time in Turkey the barber wanted to charge the equivalent of £30, my wife got him down to £10 which was still to high.

John, I don’t know how they all survive, there are so many of them. It has been said some of being used to put drug money through the shops.
