Our Health is the most important thing we have on this troubled Planet, and our NHS are the saviours of this fact, my recent heart problems were cared for admirably at the Freeman, then handed over to my local health care, after copious amounts of visits to the nurses and indeed QE hospital, for the very same as my local nurse taking Bloods and tests, I received a call from the doctor "yes the doctor" saying I require an urgent appointment, My surprised reply yes when now or in the morning, when doctor replies one-week next Thursday, happy days move on.

Ken this is typical of Doctors these days. You are lucky it’s not in three weeks time.

We now have to fill in a questionnaire and it’s not easy I wonder who made up this rubbish. There about 10 questions and some are unanswerable but you try.

The good bit is that you get a phone call within 24 hours and maybe an appointment in under 7-10 days

Why cant we attend our GP without having to make an appointment?
It was successful in the old days and worked well.
You would go into the 'surgery' which was just a room with chairs then sit and wait. People would know when they were next & they'd even tell you 'Your next'. Simple !

My wife went for her annual m.o.t a couple of Fridays ago. Her appointment was 11.10 - she came out at 11.30. When she went in there were two people in the waiting room and when she came out nobody in the waiting room.I am convinced that its all a game with these doctors being overworked etc.etc. !!!

Alan, it sounds like our surgery, I’ve been twice recently with my husband once he was seeing his doctor the second time a nurse, there was four people in the waiting room all seeing a nurse, and no one came out of the doctors rooms. I think all the doctors at our surgery work part time.

What amazes..stuns..intrigues me is if I ring my Doctors clinic to get an appointment to see my GP, I get the ""press 1 for... press 2 for..."" etc. etc.
but if I hang on I can speak to the receptionist and actually ask to see my GP on a specific day and time slot........ then about an hour later I will get a message on my phone asking me to confirm whether or not I'm going to attend that appointment......Didn't I just call you and ask for an appointment ?? !!

Every time I go into my surgery there is hardly anyone if anyone there, so much for GP’s being overworked !

I very nearly saw my doctor last October. She rang at 9.45am to say I had an appointment with her at 9.30am. I told her no one had contacted me with an appointment to see her. Before I could say anything else, she abruptly sad will transfer you to the receptionist and she will give you an appointment with a nurse. She was always very nice, she just sounded fed up.

I have lived in Hexham for 25 years The GP service has been exceptional in that time.
The receptionist asks if it is urgent.
On the two occasions I have said yes, I have seen the doctor within one hour of my phone call on both those occasions. I once replied that I didn’t think it was urgent but I had a chest pain. The receptionist said “in that case you should attend that day” and booked me in.
There have been other instances of excellent service, suffice to say it is totally different to when I lived in Jarrow Obviously it is beneficial to live in a town of about 13000 population compared to 40000 nevertheless I am delighted with the service.

Bob, I think you are correct about the population of a town making a difference to how easy it is to see your doctor. We live in what was once called a Market Town. It has grown so much we now have four GP surgeries. Our surgery now has approx
16, 200 patients. Of course there is a lot of surrounding villages .
