Assisted Dying

Kim Leadbeater, who brought the Assisted Dying bill to Parliament, has already started with changes. Instead of a High Court Judge to make the final decision, she now wants a panel of psychiatrists and social workers,, lowering the bar has started already.

Sorry to mention this but my late wife died of cancer and covid. To watch the agony which in my my mind was unbearable and it still haunts me after 4 years. To let people die like this is sadistic so I'm all for assisted dying.

I remember you saying this Stan and appreciate how you would feel. My sister died of lung cancer and chose to leave hospital and die at home. That was 40 years ago in London. I was with her when they told her it might be better with a syringe driver. She had one and peacefully fell asleep as the two nurses check the dosage each day and other nurses came in shifts. She had a very peaceful death. Sadly I have seen this twice since . Peacefully with no pain. This law horrifies me, as it will be watered down, the same way as abortion( which I did agree with) is. It sounds right as it is presented to us, but it will have dreadful affects in the future for elderly people, who might think they are a burden to their family. Also to the young handicapped.

Canada has approved assisted dying for a few years now. There are many pros a d cons to this subject.Sheila has a valued point when she mentions elderly people may use it because they feel they are in the way.Stan has a very a very valued point, to end suffering when no chance of surviving, personally I went through the interview process and was deemed not qualified YET., The interview was conducted in two phasis. 1st interviewd by a government LAy person with two independent of each other witnesses.whole serious of questions of my competancy. 2nd Interview by a highly qualified doctor questioned for aproximately one hour in each case. Both submitted their analasis of my request to a 3rd party. Who ade the final decision.my medical file was also part of the equation. Their decision I wasn't a candidate at this time. They would keep in touch which they have. But Sheila has a very a very valued point of a person using the programme because they feel they are a nusience and in the way.Medicaly Assisted Dying can be very complex though it is widley acceptable in Canada.

Agree Sheila Syringe Driver .Mam's peaceful ending was for the best definitely she was suffering so glad she got it.

Sad to see Maria, but knowing Your dear Mam was comfortable and peaceful, is a comfort. I feel so sorry when I read of people dying in agony. I first heard of people having their death managed, was from a nurse in the late 1950’s, so I just can’t understand how being allowed to die in agony can happen.
