Another master piece of portraits from South Shields. The average working class person or fa ily would be hard prest to afford having a professional picture taken. Judging by the number of photographic studios in South Shields there must have been pockets of reasonably well off people among the squaler of the majority working class citizen's. ??

Judging by the amount of photographers there must be a lot of people using them.
Therefore the prices must have been affordable for a lot of people.
However they could have been used for special occasions and people could have saved up enough to pay but that feels incorrect for the number of photographers.
I know that my Great Grandfather Campbell had at lease two taken for each of his 4 children.
Each child alone and then with his wife and child or children. I have Grandfather plus parents then second child parents and sibling and finally parents with all four children.
I guess that as a ship rivetter he probably have a good wage.
Maybe I should check what the parents are wearing in 1886, 1888, 1890 & 1893 same clothes or modified originals.
Where my photos taken in Hebburn, Jarrow, Shields & Newcastle, have to check.
