14 /15 Turkish Barbers in our town. Years ago we had the Polish car wash in the ten but when Poland got to be more affluent with EU cash, the Polish men went home and it’s now owned by Romanians.

We all have known, for YEARS, that nail bars, and particularly, car wash's are run as cash in hand busineses, by immigrants.......Duh!

There's three Turkish barbers in the Newtown and one run by local people, surely the council are not that stupid to not be suspicious before letting these shops, (well i would be).ps sorry two run by locals both on station road.

The barber my husband used retired, he then went to another local lady who cuts men’s hair, she wa# telling him that she often gets ‘visits’ from these Turkish Barbers threatening her, she has informed the Police but, of course, nothing has been done, good lady refuses to be intimidated so carries on doing her business, all wrong.

About a month ago, they were actually fighting each other on station road,try going to Turkey to set up a business you wouldn't last five minutes, morale of these texts stick to British barbers.

Not paid for a haircut since April 2004 as bought a hair cutter in Spain and still using the same cutter these days.

Quarter inch crew cut the norm and if my hair gets up to half an inch I’m itching to get out the cutter.

Back in around 2002/3/4 I would travel to Bedale from Knaresborough for a hair cut as we had our caravan at Leyburn area for a few years and found a good chap. Daft I know but a nice trip out anyway.

Some years ago I shaved the lot off, bald as a coot for a weeks or so.

Last time I looked a haircut was about £12-£15 but that was years ago. By gum I’ve saved some brass over the last 20 years!

My wife was a Ladies Hairdresser and I havent been to the Barbers since about 1968. How much have I saved in that 57 years ?

I am also lucky in so far that my daughter trained to be a hairdresser and see’s to my hair and beard !

Always be in work .Hairdressing never leaves you once trained even after a lot of years you can cut perm whatever .When I did my apprenticeship 1962 you were indentured for three years then went on to do two years improving as it was called then qualified .A good job for anyone to go into.

We have a couple of Car Washes in the Hebburn area & all are operated by young middle east foreigners. I went into the Mill Lane one a year or two ago & asked where were they from and he said Syria.
Its all cash in hand so does the Tax Man ever pay a visit?

At one point the one on Mill Lane was going to close and they cited the Council for trying to drive them pout of business.
Any one recall this and reasons?

I use the jet garage in Hebburn, half price machine car wash Tuesday to Thursday, I would never use a hand car wash or a Turkish barbers and as far as I am concerned shame on anybody that does.

its taken them this long to discover that shops that dont get many customers have money going through the books . I mean in the metrocenter for example how can two barbers afford the rent upstairs malls when hardly anyone goes into the shops.

It’s a lot more prevalent now though Brian. Our town centre had 3 barbers about 10 years ago. Over the years they’ve all closed & others have come & gone, I don’t think there’s a British barbers there now. Strangely there’s about 8 foreign ones in & around town now all with very well fitted shops & at least a couple barbers in each one. Most are in prime locations too.

We have a lot barber shops about, there's the obvious fronts and genuine barber shops, I use a Turkish barber same lad for about 12 years, always busy, when I go in he doesn't only cut my hair. But trims my moustache, eyebrows, beard and any ear hair,finishing the hairlines with a cutthroat razor,the place is nipping clean , I wouldn't go anywhere else.
